First-known source
Understand why Graytower credits the earliest source it knows for a visitor.
First-known source is the acquisition context from the earliest recorded visit Graytower can associate with a visitor. It can come from campaign parameters, an explicit source, a referrer, or a direct visit. It is first known because tracking may not have seen every earlier visit.
An example
| Visit | What Graytower records |
|---|---|
| Monday | The visitor arrives with utm_source=google. |
| Wednesday | The same visitor opens the site directly. |
| Friday | The visitor pays $49 and Graytower matches the payment. |
The acquisition view credits Google. Wednesday's direct visit does not replace the first known source.
What Direct means
Direct means Graytower did not receive a more specific source for that visit. It does not prove the visitor had no marketing touch. When a payment cannot be linked to a visitor with a session, it stays unattributed.
